This carefully crafted ebook: "The Shooting Party (A Murder Mystery)" is formatted for your eReader with a functional and detailed table of contents. Excerpt: "On an April day of the year 1880 the doorkeeper Audrey came into my private room and told me in a mysterious whisper that a gentleman had come to the editorial office and demanded insistently to see the editor. 'He appears to be a chinovnik,' Andrey added. 'He has a cockade…' 'Ask him to come another time,' I said, 'I am busy today. Tell him the editor only receives on Saturdays.' 'He was here the day before yesterday and asked for you. He says his business is urgent. He begs, almost with tears in his eyes, to see you. He says he is not free on Saturday… Will you receive him?'" (The Shooting Party, 1884) The Shooting Party is a triangular love story-cum-murder mystery novel and Chekhov's only novel. Not many people are aware of the fact that before becoming the celebrated short story writer and playwright he tried his hands at novel writing. One can witness the birth of Chekhov's unique style (although in its infancy) for which he would be later remembered for. Anton Chekhov (1860-1904) was a Russian physician, dramaturge and author who is often referred to as one of the seminal figures in the birth of early modernism in the theatre. He made no apologies for the difficulties he posed to the readers, insisting that the role of an artist was to ask questions, not to answer them.

Anton Pavlovich Chekhov (29 January 1860 – 15 July 1904) was a Russian playwright and short-story writer, who is considered to be among the greatest writers of short fiction in history. “Wife” is one of the famous works of A.P. Chekhov. The plot focuses on a conflict between spouses, where the ambitions and pride of one destroy family life and relationships with others. The work captivates with laconic content, deep meaning and brilliant Chekhov's syllable. Chekhov Anton Pavlovich - author of the famous stories, the novel “Ward No. 6”, the play “Anniversary”, as well as the following works: “Exam for rank”, “Happiness”, “Tutor”, “At the mill”, “Wife”, “Groom and daddy”, “Who is to blame?”, “Ambulance”, “Work of art” and others. For more than a century, the works of A.P. Chekhov have conquered world theater scenes: in terms of the number of plays played, he is second only to the English playwright William Shakespeare.

Uncle Vanya is a play by the Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. It was first published in 1897 and received its Moscow première in 1899 in a production by the Moscow Art Theatre, under the direction of Konstantin Stanislavski. The play portrays the visit of an elderly professor and his glamorous, much younger second wife, Yelena, to the rural estate that supports their urban lifestyle. Two friends—Vanya, brother of the professor's late first wife, who has long managed the estate, and Astrov, the local doctor—both fall under Yelena's spell, while bemoaning the ennui of their provincial existence. Sonya, the professor's daughter by his first wife, who has worked with Vanya to keep the estate going, suffers from her unrequited feelings for Dr. Astrov. Matters are brought to a crisis when the professor announces his intention to sell the estate, Vanya and Sonya's home, with a view to investing the proceeds to achieve a higher income for himself and his wife.

Uncle Vanya is a play by the Russian playwright Anton Chekhov. It was first published in 1898, and was first produced in 1899 by the Moscow Art Theatre under the direction of Konstantin Stanislavski. Uncle Vanya is unique among Chekhov's major plays because it is essentially an extensive reworking of his own play published a decade earlier, The Wood Demon. By elucidating the specific changes Chekhov made during the revision process—these include reducing the cast from almost two dozen down to nine, changing the climactic suicide of The Wood Demon into the famous failed homicide of Uncle Vanya, and altering the original happy ending into a more ambiguous, less final resolution—critics such as Donald Rayfield, Richard Gilman, and Eric Bentley have sought to chart the development of Chekhov's dramaturgical method through the 1890s.

In the heat of summer, Sonya and her Uncle Vanya while away their days on a crumbling estate deep in the countryside, visited occasionally by the only local doctor Astrov. However, when Sonya's father, Professor Serebryakov, suddenly returns with his restless, alluring, new wife, declaring his intention to sell the house, the polite façades crumble and long-repressed feelings start to emerge with devastating consequences.Olivier Award-winner Conor McPherson's stunning adaptation of Anton Chekhov's masterpiece, Uncle Vanya, is a portrayal of life at the turn of the twentieth century, full of tumultuous frustration, dark humour and hidden passions. It premiered at the Harold Pinter Theatre in London's West End in January 2020, directed by Ian Rickson.
